Overview

Prothymosin alpha pseudogene (ENSG00000259020) is a member of the human prothymosin alpha gene family, classified as a processed pseudogene. Unlike the functional PTMA gene, which encodes the immune-modulating protein prothymosin alpha, the pseudogene possesses sequence similarity but does not produce transcripts or functional protein in human tissues. Genetic studies show these pseudogenes typically lack deleterious mutations but have no evidence for active expression or biological activity. Thus, this locus is not recognized as a molecular target for therapy, drug development, or disease biology in humans.
