Prothymosin alpha pseudogene 2 (PTMAP2) is a member of the human prothymosin alpha gene family, but it is classified as a processed pseudogene, not a functional gene or protein. PTMAP2 encodes a sequence very similar to that of the functional prothymosin alpha gene (PTMA) but contains subtle differences at two amino acid positions. Despite the presence of an intact open reading frame and regulatory sequences, there is no evidence that PTMAP2 is transcribed or translated into a functional protein in human tissues. Therefore, it is not considered a molecular target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter), nor does it have established biological or disease-related functions, interact with drugs, or serve as a biomarker. Only the "parental" PTMA gene expresses the functional prothymosin alpha protein, which is involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, chromatin remodeling, and immune modulation. PTMAP2, like other pseudogenes in the family, is generally not expressed and is considered non-functional in the context of biological or therapeutic targeting[2].
