Overview

Prothymosin alpha pseudogene 6 (PTMAP6) is one of several processed pseudogenes in the human prothymosin alpha gene family[1][2]. Unlike the functional PTMA gene (prothymosin alpha), which encodes a protein involved in immune regulation, apoptosis, and cell proliferation, PTMAP6 does not produce a functional protein and is not associated with canonical biological functions or therapeutic targeting[2][1][7]. There is no substantial evidence for its transcription or translation in human tissues, and it is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or drug-interacting molecule. As a pseudogene, it lacks roles in disease, molecular function, or utility as a biomarker[1][2][7]. Notes: - PTMAP6 should not be confused with the functional prothymosin alpha gene (PTMA), which has established biological roles and therapeutic interest[5][9]. - PTMAP6 is not a drug target and has no mechanistic or disease associations, and the gene is essentially functionless in the context of protein-coding or regulatory activity in humans[2][1][7].
