Mas Receptor
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Receptor, Class A GPCR

Overview

The MAS1 proto-oncogene receptor, also known as the Mas receptor, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that functions as a key component of the renin–angiotensin system. It is activated by angiotensin-(1–7) and mediates vasodilation, cardioprotection, and anti-proliferative effects. While originally identified for its oncogenic potential, it can also act as an inhibitory regulator in certain cancers. It's a therapeutic target being explored for cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes.

Mechanism of action

Agonist binding stimulates phospholipase C signaling, activates RHO family GTPases (RHO, RAS, RAC), triggers ERK/MAPK and PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways, and downregulates NFκB signaling.
