Proto-oncogene protein c-KIT (c-KIT)

Target
c-KIT
Molecular classification
Receptor tyrosine kinase, Type III receptor tyrosine kinase, Transmembrane glycoprotein
01

Overview

Proto-oncogene protein c-KIT, also known as CD117, is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase that plays essential roles in cell signaling related to survival, proliferation, differentiation, and migration. It is activated by stem cell factor (SCF) and transduces signals through PI3K/AKT/mTOR, RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK MAPK, JAK/STAT, and PLCγ pathways. Dysregulation of c-KIT is implicated in various diseases, including GISTs, mastocytosis, and AML, making it a validated target for small molecule inhibitors like imatinib.
