Overview

The proto-oncogene protein c-mas-1 receptor, commonly referred to as MAS1, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) encoded by the MAS1 gene in humans. It is characterized by a seven-transmembrane domain structure typical of GPCRs and plays significant roles in cellular signaling pathways related to growth regulation, cardiovascular function, and inflammation. It acts primarily as a receptor for angiotensin-(1–7), a peptide hormone within the renin–angiotensin system (RAS). Upon activation by its ligand Ang-(1–7), the MAS1 receptor modulates several physiological processes including vasodilation, angiogenesis, antifibrotic and antihypertrophic effects.
