Proto-oncogene protein c-Rel is a DNA-binding protein and a member of the NF-κB family of transcription factors. It plays a critical role in lymphocyte differentiation, especially B-cell survival and proliferation. As part of the NF-kappa-B complex, it regulates immune response, cell growth, apoptosis, and inflammation. The REL gene is amplified or mutated in several human B-cell lymphomas, contributing to tumorigenesis. c-Rel is considered a potential myeloid checkpoint protein and therapeutic target in hematologic malignancies.
