Overview

Protocadherin-10 is a calcium-dependent homophilic cell adhesion receptor, located on human chromosome 4q28.3, containing 6 extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane domain, and a unique cytoplasmic tail. Predominantly expressed in the nervous system, PCDH10 plays key roles in brain development, neural circuit formation, regulation of cytoskeletal dynamics, and acts as a tumor suppressor in various cancers. Its loss or downregulation—commonly by promoter methylation—is associated with tumor progression and poor prognosis in several carcinomas, and may serve as a useful biomarker for early cancer detection.
