Protocadherin-20 (PCDH20)

Target
PCDH20
Molecular classification
Non-clustered protocadherin, Cadherin superfamily (cell adhesion molecules), δ0-protocadherin (unique subtype of δ-protocadherins)
01

Overview

Protocadherin-20 (PCDH20) is a member of the δ-subgroup of non-clustered protocadherins within the cadherin superfamily of calcium-dependent cell-adhesion proteins. It contains six extracellular cadherin domains, a transmembrane segment, and a unique cytoplasmic tail. PCDH20 is predominantly expressed in the nervous system and in certain peripheral tissues such as liver and taste buds. Functionally, it has been implicated in cell–cell adhesion, the establishment and maintenance of neuronal circuits, and suppression of tumor cell proliferation and migration, particularly through antagonism of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma. While its role in sensory systems has been suggested in mice, its full function in humans and its potential clinical utility as a target remains undetermined.

Biological functions

Cell adhesion (potential calcium-dependent cell-adhesion protein)Neuronal connectivity/cell-cell signaling in the nervous systemRegulation of cell proliferationTumor suppressor activity (notably in hepatocellular carcinoma)Role in taste bud cell-neuron wiring (in mice)
04

Disease associations

05

Safety considerations

Unknown (no therapeutic agents directly targeting PCDH20; no specific safety concerns described)
