Protocadherin beta-15 (PCDHB15)

Target
PCDHB15
Molecular classification
Cadherin superfamily, Clustered protocadherin beta subfamily, Cell adhesion protein, Plasma membrane protein
01

Overview

Protocadherin beta-15 is a cadherin superfamily cell adhesion protein encoded by the *PCDHB15* gene, found in the protocadherin beta cluster on chromosome 5. It has six extracellular cadherin domains and a cytoplasmic tail, and is expressed as a large single-exon transcript. Protocadherin beta-15 is thought to be important for the development and functioning of neural connections, though its precise biological roles are still being defined. Epigenetic silencing of *PCDHB15* by promoter methylation is implicated in breast cancer pathogenesis and proposed as a novel biomarker for breast cancer detection and prognosis.
