Overview

Protocadherin beta 19 pseudogene (PCDHB19P, also known as PCDH-PSI5) is a non-functional genetic element within the human protocadherin beta gene cluster on chromosome 5[2]. The protocadherin beta gene cluster contains both protein-coding genes and multiple pseudogenes, with the pseudogenes not encoding active proteins. Protocadherins in general are part of the cadherin superfamily and are involved in neural cell adhesion, but PCDHB19P is not transcribed into a protein and has no known physiological or pathological function[2]. This locus is not considered a molecular target for therapeutic intervention or pharmacological modulation.
