Target intelligence / Profile preview

Protocadherin gamma-A11 (PCDHGA11)

Target
PCDHGA11
Molecular classification
Cell adhesion molecule, Cadherin superfamily, Protocadherin gamma subfamily A
01

Overview

Protocadherin gamma-A11 belongs to the protocadherin gamma gene cluster, featuring an immunoglobulin-like organization and encoding a cell adhesion protein with six cadherin ectodomains and a single transmembrane region. Its cytoplasmic region is shared among other cluster members due to exon structure. The protein is thought to be involved in calcium-dependent cell adhesion, facilitating specificity in neuronal connectivity critical for brain development and function. It is primarily expressed in neural tissues, and alternative splicing has been observed. Dysfunction or silencing of PCDHGA11 may contribute to neurodevelopmental abnormalities and has been epigenetically suppressed in certain brain tumors such as astrocytomas. There is currently no evidence supporting its role as a direct therapeutic target nor any approved drug interactions.
