Overview

Protocadherin gamma-B3 (PCDHGB3) is a member of the protocadherin gamma gene cluster, which encodes neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins thought to play a critical role in establishing and maintaining specific cell-cell connections in the brain. This protein is a potential calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule, with its extracellular region composed of six cadherin ectodomains and a transmembrane domain, followed by a shared cytoplasmic domain. PCDHGB3 is primarily expressed in neural tissues and may be involved in guiding neuronal network formation and synaptic specificity. Alternative splicing has been reported for the gene, contributing to its functional diversity within the nervous system. Not considered a classic therapeutic target (not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, etc.), but may be relevant in neurodevelopmental disorders. No known drugs, mechanisms of action, or biomarkers are reported for this protein in the context of pharmacological targeting. The primary function relates to neural cell adhesion and brain development.
