PRP3 pre-mRNA processing factor 3 homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000253223, also known as LOC100288001) is a human pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein. It is homologous to the PRPF3 gene, which encodes a U4/U6 snRNP splicing factor involved in spliceosome assembly and pre-mRNA processing. However, as a pseudogene, ENSG00000253223 has no known role in normal cell biology, disease, or therapeutic targeting[7]. Confusion may arise with the functional PRPF3 gene (a protein involved in RNA splicing, mutations in which are linked to retinitis pigmentosa), but this entry refers only to the non-functional pseudogene[3][7].
