Overview

PRP4 pre-mRNA processing factor 4 homolog B pseudogene (ENSG00000229817) is a pseudogene related to the functional gene encoding PRPF4B (pre-mRNA processing factor 4B), a serine/threonine kinase involved in pre-mRNA splicing in eukaryotic cells. Unlike the active PRPF4B gene, this pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and has no established biological activity or therapeutic utility. There is no evidence it acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, signaling molecule, or clinically relevant genetic locus. It is not considered a druggable target or established biomarker. The related functional gene, PRPF4B (or PRP4K), is an essential kinase that participates in spliceosomal assembly, influences chromatin remodeling, and has been implicated in pathways affecting cancer progression and resistance to chemotherapy. However, these properties do not apply to its pseudogene form.
