PRPF31 antisense RNA 1 (PRPF31-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on the opposite DNA strand to the PRPF31 gene and is transcribed in antisense orientation. While PRPF31 itself encodes an essential component of the spliceosome critical for pre-mRNA splicing and is directly linked to retinitis pigmentosa, PRPF31-AS1 does *not* encode a protein and has no well-established function or molecular target status.
