Overview

PRRX2 antisense RNA 1 (PRRX2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the PRRX2 gene and does not encode a protein[4]. It is classified as an antisense RNA due to its orientation relative to the PRRX2 locus and is implicated in the regulation of gene expression, often through mechanisms such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or recruitment of regulatory transcription factors[3][6]. According to expression data, PRRX2-AS1 is highly specific to basal cells of the epidermis and may play a specialized role in skin homeostasis[2]. While antisense lncRNAs in general can regulate tumor-relevant cellular processes (e.g., proliferation, apoptosis) and act as biomarkers for some diseases, there is currently limited direct evidence for PRRX2-AS1’s involvement as a therapeutic target in specific disease contexts or for drug targeting[4][6]. No drugs are currently known to directly target this RNA.
