PRSS23 antisense RNA 1 (PRSS23-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the opposite direction of the PRSS23 gene. It functions as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) and is implicated in breast cancer, where increased expression of PRSS23-AS1 promotes cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. Mechanistically, it may sequester specific microRNAs, indirectly regulating target gene expression. Currently, PRSS23-AS1 is being studied for its role in cancer biology, but it is not considered a direct therapeutic target or receptor, nor is it associated with approved drugs or clinical safety concerns[2].
