This target is a pseudogene locus that is annotated as similar to a portion of a putative dimethyladenosine transferase gene, based on sequence homology. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to functional genes but contain disabling mutations that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. They typically arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition but have lost their original biological function. While functionally “silent” for protein coding, some pseudogenes can have regulatory effects at the RNA level by acting as competing endogenous RNAs or by regulating parental gene expression through RNA-mediated processes. However, there is no evidence that this specific pseudogene acts as a regulator, biomarker, or disease-associated entity.
