Pseudogene similar to part of N-acetylglucosamine kinase (ENSG00000233870)

ENSG00000233870 represents a pseudogene whose sequence is similar to part of the functional N-acetylglucosamine kinase (NAGK) gene[6]. This pseudogene does not encode a functional protein and, as such, has no confirmed role in human biology, disease, or drug targeting. The canonical N-acetylglucosamine kinase (NAGK) enzyme is a true kinase involved in amino sugar metabolism and is encoded by the separate functional NAGK gene (gene symbol: NAGK)[7][5][1]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to functional genes but are usually nonfunctional due to mutations or truncations that preclude normal gene expression or protein product. There is no evidence that this pseudogene is associated with disease or therapeutic intervention[6].
