Divergent transcripts are typically transcribed from the region upstream and in the antisense direction relative to a protein-coding gene promoter. Such transcripts are commonly referred to as uaRNAs (upstream antisense RNAs) or a type of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), but PSMD14-DT itself does not encode a functional protein nor is it one of the established therapeutic targets such as a receptor or enzyme.
