PTOV1 antisense RNA 1 (PTOV1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the PTOV1 gene, mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of tumor cells and acting as a molecular decoy for microRNAs such as miR-1207-5p and miR-149-5p. Through this mechanism, PTOV1-AS1 regulates key genes associated with tumor proliferation, survival, and resistance to treatments— notably impacting heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and Wnt/β-catenin pathway activity. PTOV1-AS1 is upregulated in several malignancies, such as osteosarcoma, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer, and is considered both a promising biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for cancer intervention.
Modulates miRNA availability by acting as a molecular decoy, thereby affecting the post-transcriptional repression of target genes (e.g., HO-1 via miR-1207-5p, Wnt pathway via miR-149-5p). Regulates the expression of oncogenic and cytoprotective genes, impacting proliferation, survival, and drug resistance in tumor cells.
