Overview

PTP4A1 pseudogene 4 (PTP4A1P4) is a human pseudogene related to the protein tyrosine phosphatase type IVA 1 gene, PTP4A1. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but nonfunctional; they may arise from duplication or retrotransposition. PTP4A1 pseudogenes do not encode active protein tyrosine phosphatases and have no known direct cellular or disease function. The parent gene, PTP4A1, encodes a phosphatase involved in cell cycle progression, migration, and cancer, but the pseudogene is distinct from the functional protein coding gene
