PTPN11 pseudogene 4 (PTPN11P4) is a pseudogene—a segment of DNA resembling the PTPN11 gene but lacking the sequence features required to encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition and are usually regarded as non-functional genomic elements. PTPN11P4 does not produce the SHP2 tyrosine phosphatase and is not implicated in signal transduction or disease. This distinguishes it from the protein-coding PTPN11 gene, which encodes the protein-tyrosine phosphatase SHP2, a key cellular signaling enzyme associated with development, cancer, and congenital syndromes[1][3][4][5].
