Overview

PTPRC antisense RNA 1 (PTPRC-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), classified as an antisense RNA gene transcribed from the opposite DNA strand of the canonical PTPRC gene locus. As with other lncRNAs, it does not encode a protein. Instead, it is presumed to function in the regulation of gene expression, potentially affecting the levels or splicing of the protein-coding PTPRC gene. Currently, PTPRC-AS1 is not recognized as a conventional therapeutic target, and there is limited characterization of its physiological or pathological functions. However, lncRNAs of this class are of increasing interest in biomedical research for their regulatory roles and possible links to cancer biology and immune regulation[7]. This RNA is distinct from the protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type C (PTPRC, or CD45), which is a well-characterized cell surface molecule and validated therapeutic target in immunology and oncology[1][5][8]. PTPRC-AS1 itself is not a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and should not be confused with these protein-coding \"target\" classes. PTPRC-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA gene, not a druggable receptor, enzyme, or transporter. It may regulate expression of the PTPRC gene, with unclear direct roles in human disease and no established pharmacology[7].
