PTPRJ antisense RNA 1 (PTPRJ-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the PTPRJ gene locus. It is highly expressed in macrophage-enriched tissues and is transiently induced by proinflammatory stimuli, such as Toll-like receptor ligands, with a similar expression pattern to PTPRJ itself[1]. There is evidence that such antisense lncRNAs can influence the expression or splicing of nearby genes, suggesting that PTPRJ-AS1 may have a regulatory role affecting the PTPRJ gene. However, the specific molecular function of PTPRJ-AS1 remains unknown, and there is no established direct therapeutic targeting of this RNA[1][5]. PTPRJ-AS1 is not a protein, receptor, enzyme, or classical drug target in its own right, but may play a role in gene regulation through its lncRNA activity[1][5]. The role in disease is likely indirect and mediated via regulation of PTPRJ, a receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase involved in cell signaling and tumor suppression[1]. Currently, there are no known drugs, biomarkers, mechanisms of action, or safety concerns associated specifically with PTPRJ-AS1.
