Pulmonary Alveolus

Molecular classification
Cellular Structure, Tissue Component
01

Overview

The pulmonary alveolus is a microscopic air sac within the lungs where gas exchange occurs between inhaled air and blood. Its structure, including type I and type II pneumocytes and alveolar macrophages, facilitates efficient oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide removal. Damage or dysfunction of alveoli is implicated in various respiratory diseases.
