Overview

The pulmonary capillary bed is an extensive network of microscopic blood vessels (capillaries) located within the alveolar walls of the lungs. It is essential for gas exchange, allowing oxygen to enter the blood and carbon dioxide to be removed. Dysfunction or damage can lead to impaired gas exchange or leakage of fluid into lung tissue (edema).
