Purine Analog Activity (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Small molecule antimetabolite
01

Overview

Purine analog activity refers to the biological effects of compounds that structurally mimic natural purines and interfere with their normal metabolic processes. These compounds act primarily as antimetabolites by competing with endogenous purines for incorporation into nucleic acids or by inhibiting enzymes involved in nucleotide synthesis. They are primarily used as anticancer and immunosuppressive agents.

02

Mechanism of action

Purine analogues mimic or inhibit endogenous purines, blocking nucleotide biosynthesis and/or incorporating into DNA/RNA to disrupt replication and repair.
