Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Purine P2X3 receptor (P2X purinoceptor 3) is a ligand-gated ion channel belonging to the family of purinergic receptors for ATP. It plays a key role in sensory neurotransmission, particularly in pain signaling and other physiological processes. It is expressed predominantly at central/peripheral terminals and cell bodies of small-diameter sensory neurons. Selective antagonism of the human P2X3 receptor is being explored for novel analgesics targeting chronic pain conditions and disorders involving abnormal urinary bladder function.
