Purkinje cell protein 2 (PCP2) is a neuronal protein encoded by the PCP2 gene (also known as GPSM4), expressed almost exclusively in cerebellar Purkinje cells and in retinal ON bipolar cells[1][2][7]. PCP2 contains GoLoco motifs, acting as a modulator of G protein-mediated signaling pathways, where it serves as a guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor (GDI) for specific Gα subunits—primarily those of the Gi/o family, refining kinetics of signal transduction in neurons[1]. Its principal function appears to involve modulation of neuronal signaling pathways essential for sensory responsiveness and motor control. Although PCP2 is part of several fundamental neural pathways and is sometimes referenced in association with neurological conditions, it is not widely considered a direct therapeutic target, nor are there approved drugs specifically acting on it[2][7].
