PUS1 antisense RNA 1 (PUS1-AS1, also known as AC131009.1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the strand opposite the PUS1 gene, which encodes pseudouridine synthase 1. PUS1-AS1 has not been characterized as a therapeutic target, receptor, transporter, or enzyme. Antisense RNAs generally regulate their counterpart sense genes through mechanisms such as RNA interference or translational regulation, but no publications or major databases currently describe a specific molecular function, disease role, or druggability for PUS1-AS1 in humans. The primary literature and major gene databases (HGNC, GeneCards, NCBI Gene) either list PUS1-AS1 as an antisense RNA or lack entries for this RNA entirely, indicating it is not an established target in clinical or basic research. Most functional and disease relevance is associated with the protein-coding gene PUS1, not with its antisense RNA. PUS1 itself is an RNA-modifying enzyme implicated in RNA pseudouridylation and certain cancer contexts, but PUS1-AS1 does not share these characteristics based on current knowledge.
