Overview

Putative inactive ribonuclease 11 (RNase 11) is a member of the human ribonuclease A (hRNase A) superfamily, which consists of secretory proteins involved in RNA metabolism, particularly the degradation of extracellular and intracellular RNAs. While most RNase A family members are catalytically active and play roles in catabolic RNA processing and host defense, RNase 11 (part of the non-canonical subgroup RNases 9–13) is predicted to be catalytically inactive due to the absence of key active-site residues required for ribonucleolytic activity. Its exact biological function remains unclear, and it does not have confirmed roles as a therapeutic drug target, disease biomarker, or direct participant in any defined disease mechanism[1][4].
