Putative receptor DR1-C is a mitochondrial membrane component identified as a potential receptor for Differentiation-Inducing Factor 1 (DIF-1) in the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum. DIF-1 is a chlorinated alkyl phenone that regulates the transition from chemotaxis to cell differentiation, specifically inducing the formation of stalk cells. Research suggests that DR1-C resides in the mitochondrial membrane and that DIF-1 modulates chemotaxis by interfering with mitochondrial activity, possibly acting as a mitochondrial uncoupler. In the context of pharmacology, DIF-1 and its derivatives (such as DIF-3) have demonstrated significant anti-tumor properties in human cancer cell lines by disrupting mitochondrial function, leading to ATP depletion and apoptosis. Consequently, the mitochondrial components targeted by these molecules, including the putative DR1-C receptor, are investigated for their potential roles in cancer therapy and metabolic regulation.
