PWWP domain containing 2A pseudogene 1 (PWWP2AP1)

PWWP domain containing 2A pseudogene 1 (PWWP2AP1) is a processed pseudogene and retrocopy derived from the parental gene PWWP domain containing 2A (PWWP2A)[3]. It is found in the genome of humans and several other primates, located intergenically (e.g., on chromosome 13 in chimpanzee)[3]. Processed pseudogenes like PWWP2AP1 generally result from retrotransposition events and are typically nonfunctional, most often lacking protein-coding potential and conventional gene regulation. Although some pseudogenes are transcribed and rare cases have evolved new regulatory or non-coding RNA roles, current evidence does not support any protein-coding potential, druggability, or clear biological function for PWWP2AP1[3]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, and no disease association or drug interactions are known.
