Pyrin domain-containing protein 2 (PYDC2) is a small human protein that acts as a regulator of the innate immune response. It inhibits the formation of the NLRP3 inflammasome by interfering with the interaction between PYCARD and NLRP3, limiting inflammation. PYDC2 can also inhibit the NF-kappa-B signaling pathway by preventing nuclear accumulation of the RELA subunit, thereby negatively regulating gene expression related to inflammation. The protein is mainly found in the cytosol and is implicated in modulating immune activation especially in the context of infection and inflammatory disease[1][3][6][7].
