Pyroglutamate amyloid beta (AβpE3) is a post-translationally modified form of the amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide, a key component in Alzheimer’s disease pathology. It arises from N-terminal truncation and cyclization of glutamic acid at position 3 to pyroglutamate, catalyzed by glutaminyl cyclase. This modification enhances aggregation, stability, and neurotoxicity compared to unmodified Aβ, making it a therapeutic target.
