Target intelligence / Profile preview
Qi balance restoration is a fundamental therapeutic principle in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that refers to the harmonization of the body's vital energy, or 'Qi.' According to TCM theory, Qi is the essential life force that flows through pathways known as meridians, and health is defined as the state where this energy is balanced and unobstructed (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2023). Restoration involves addressing states of Qi deficiency or stagnation through various modalities such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine (World Health Organization, 2007). Unlike conventional therapeutic targets like proteins, enzymes, or receptors, Qi is a metaphysical construct and does not correspond to a singular molecular entity recognized in Western biomedicine. While some scientific inquiries have attempted to correlate Qi with physiological processes like mitochondrial function or ATP production, 'Qi balance restoration' remains a holistic clinical outcome rather than a quantifiable pharmacological target (PubMed: 25206257). As such, it is not considered a valid molecular target for modern drug discovery or biotechnological development.
