Target intelligence / Profile preview
Qi promoting is a therapeutic concept derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) rather than a specific molecular target, receptor, or enzyme. In TCM philosophy, 'Qi' represents the vital life force or energy required for physiological functions, and 'Qi promoting' (or Qi-tonifying) refers to the action of medicinal substances that restore or enhance this energy to treat 'Qi deficiency' (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2023). Modern pharmacological studies have attempted to map this concept to biological processes, finding that Qi-promoting agents—primarily adaptogenic herbs like Panax ginseng—often work by improving mitochondrial efficiency and increasing ATP production (PubMed, PMID: 15305140). These substances also influence the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to modulate the body's response to stress and enhance immune surveillance. Because 'Qi promoting' describes a multifaceted physiological effect involving multiple organs and pathways, it does not correspond to a single protein or a standard drug target in conventional Western medicine.
Enhancement of mitochondrial ATP production, stabilization of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, and modulation of cytokine production to improve cellular energy and systemic resilience (PubMed, PMID: 15305140; PMID: 28243406).
