Qi tonics like Panax ginseng and Astragalus membranaceus are studied for their adaptogenic properties, which help the body maintain homeostasis by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and boosting immune surveillance (NIH NCCIH, 2023). These substances contain complex bioactive compounds, including ginsenosides and polysaccharides, which interact with various signaling pathways to alleviate fatigue and improve resistance to disease. Because it represents a broad physiological state rather than a discrete protein, it is classified as a therapeutic effect rather than a conventional drug target.

Mechanism of action
