Overview

Quinone reductase 1 (NQO1) is a cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the two-electron reduction of quinones to hydroquinones, protecting cells from oxidative stress and electrophile toxicity. It plays roles in detoxification, antioxidant defense, drug metabolism, and stabilization of proteins and mRNA. NQO1 is often overexpressed in tumors and is a target for prodrug activation. Genetic polymorphisms affecting NQO1 activity can influence disease susceptibility and drug response.
