R3HDML antisense RNA 1 (R3HDML-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located at chromosome 20 and is classified as an antisense RNA[1][7]. Antisense lncRNAs such as R3HDML-AS1 are known to regulate the expression of sense genes through a variety of mechanisms, including modulation of chromatin structure, transcriptional interference, and stabilization or degradation of target RNAs. The precise function of R3HDML-AS1 remains uncharacterized, but bioinformatic data links it with regulatory processes, and it is associated with Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young in some genetic association resources[7]. There is currently no evidence that R3HDML-AS1 itself is a direct therapeutic target (e.g., enzyme, receptor, ion channel), nor are there known drugs interacting with it or well-established roles as a biomarker, but the biology of antisense RNAs continues to be a focus of research for their gene-modulatory effects[2][6][7].
