Overview

Rab11 family-interacting protein 1 (RAB11FIP1), also known as Rab-coupling protein (RCP), is an adaptor protein that functions as an effector for Rab GTPases, specifically Rab11, Rab14, and Rab25. It is a component of the endosomal recycling machinery and regulates the trafficking of membrane proteins—including integrins and the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)—between endosomes and other cellular compartments. RAB11FIP1 is involved in vesicle recycling, endocytic sorting, and phagocytosis, and it plays a role in adiponectin trafficking from adipocytes, with potential implications for metabolic diseases such as obesity-associated reductions in circulating adiponectin. Overexpression or altered function of RAB11FIP1 has been linked to tumorigenesis and cancer cell migration, as well as modulation of neuritogenesis. RAB11FIP1 is not a classical drug target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no approved drugs are known to act directly on this protein.
