RAB11B antisense RNA 1 (RAB11B-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA overlapping the RAB11B gene in antisense orientation. It is notable as a naturally occurring SINEUP molecule, with functional domains essential for upregulating RAB11B protein translation in human neuronal progenitors and other cell types. RAB11B-AS1's expression is sensitive to CHD8 levels, which are important for neurodevelopment and associated with autism risk. Its dysregulation may contribute to ASD pathogenesis by affecting vesicular trafficking and synaptic activity. RAB11B-AS1 is also upregulated under hypoxia in cancer, suggesting roles in tumoral adaptation and progression. Evidence indicates variable regulatory effects in different cancer types and cell contexts (upregulating, downregulating, or neutral). RAB11B-AS1 serves as a host gene for microRNA-4999, further linking it to complex RNA-mediated regulatory networks.
