RAB3A interacting protein like 1 (RAB3IL1) is a protein encoded by the RAB3IL1 gene in humans and functions primarily as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for the small GTPase Rab3A. It promotes the exchange of GDP for GTP on Rab3A (and possibly other Rab proteins such as Rab8A and Rab8B), thereby regulating the activity of these GTPases. Rab3A itself plays an important role in synaptic vesicle exocytosis, implicating RAB3IL1 in vesicle-mediated transport and signaling processes within cells. There are disease associations with schizophrenia and necrotizing fasciitis, but as of current knowledge, RAB3IL1 is not considered a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to specifically target this protein. The gene is located on chromosome 11 in humans and its protein product has several alternative names reflecting its GEF function and interactions with Rab proteins
