Target intelligence / Profile preview
The rabies virus (RABV) is a neurotropic virus that causes rabies, a fatal encephalitic disease in humans and other mammals. It is most commonly transmitted through the saliva of infected animals via bites, but can also be spread if infected saliva contacts open wounds or mucous membranes. Post-exposure prophylaxis is critical as there is no cure once symptoms develop.
Rabies immunoglobulin provides passive immunization by neutralizing the virus. Rabies vaccine stimulates active immunity.
