Rabies Virus Envelope Glycoprotein (RABV-G)

Target
RABV-G
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Envelope glycoprotein
01

Overview

The rabies virus envelope glycoprotein, commonly referred to as the G protein or RABV-G, is the only surface-exposed protein on the rabies virion. It plays a central role in viral entry into host cells by mediating attachment and fusion with host membranes. It is the primary target for neutralizing antibodies generated by vaccination or infection, making it a key antigen in rabies vaccines. RABV-G interacts with multiple cellular receptors, including nAChR, NCAM, and p75NTR. Conformational changes induced by acidic pH trigger fusion between viral and cellular membranes, allowing genome entry into host cells.
