Overview

RAC1P1 is a human pseudogene with high sequence similarity to the functional Rac family small GTPase 1 (RAC1) gene[1][5]. Unlike its parent gene, RAC1P1 is intronless and does not produce a functional protein. Studies show that RAC1P1 is expressed in several human tissues and is notably overexpressed in various brain tumor types, including meningioma, astrocytoma, and pituitary adenoma, suggesting a possible involvement in tumorigenesis[1]. The biological function of RAC1P1 appears to be limited to regulatory roles at the RNA level rather than encoding a protein; pseudogenes like RAC1P1 are recognized for their capacity to modulate gene expression through mechanisms such as competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity, though direct evidence for this function for RAC1P1 is currently limited[3]. There are no approved or experimental drugs targeting RAC1P1, and it is not considered a therapeutic target[5].
