RAD1 pseudogene 1 (RAD1P1) is classified as a pseudogene related to the RAD1 gene, which encodes a component of the 9-1-1 DNA checkpoint complex involved in DNA damage response and repair[1][3]. Unlike functional genes, pseudogenes like RAD1P1 are typically noncoding due to disabling mutations and do not produce functional protein products[2][4]. However, pseudogenes may have biological effects at the RNA level, such as acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that modulate the activity of microRNAs and influence regulation of their parental or related genes[2][4][10]. RAD1P1 itself is not a known therapeutic target and does not encode a functional protein or recognized drug-binding receptor. Pseudogenes generally do not have direct roles as biomarkers or drug targets, but increasing evidence suggests that some can influence gene networks and might play indirect modulatory roles, including in cancer or other diseases, by interfering with RNA regulatory mechanisms[2][4][6][10]. No drugs or mechanisms of action are known for RAD1P1; it should not be considered a direct target for drug development. RAD1P1 is most accurately classified under "Other (Pseudogene)" and, for most purposes, is not a biologically or pharmacologically actionable target.
