Overview

RAD23B pseudogene 3 (RAD23BP3) is a non-protein-coding genomic region with sequence similarity to the RAD23B gene, which encodes a DNA repair protein[4]. RAD23BP3 has been also referred to as RAD23 homolog B-like pseudogene and UV excision repair protein pseudogene, but it does not encode a functional protein and is not known to participate in any biological process, disease, or drug interactions. Pseudogenes such as RAD23BP3 typically arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may be annotated for comparative genomics or evolutionary studies but are not functional cellular targets[4]. If a molecular target for drug or biomarker programs is sought, the correct entity is RAD23B (UV excision repair protein RAD23 homolog B), not RAD23BP3[1][3][4]. RAD23B itself is involved in DNA excision repair and has disease roles in certain cancers due to its functional activity[1][3], but RAD23BP3 has no known biological, disease, or therapeutic relevance[4].
